A resident of the Capital District for over 35 years, Jo Ann Shartrand has been practicing law for 40 years. She received her Juris Doctor degree, cum laude from Albany Law School in 1985, and graduated, Magna Cum Laude from Cortland State in 1982.  She is the owner of the Divorce and Family Mediation Center, where she provides mediation services for clients choosing an alternative dispute resolution process. Attorney Shartrand is the founding director and past president of the Collaborative Divorce Association of the Capital District. She is a member of the NYS Council on Divorce Mediation, the International Collaborative Divorce Association, and the Albany County and New York State Bar Associations. She has been a presenter on the subject of mediation and the collaborative divorce process at Albany Law School. She provides pro bono legal services to clients through the Legal Aid Society of Northeastern New York. In 2012, Ms. Shartrand also became an Impartial Hearing Officer for the New York State Department of Education. Ms. Shartrand's practice concentrates in the areas of mediation of matrimonial and family matters, including  uncontested divorces, legal separation, child custody, child support and family court and family issues.
